opening act at the starlite music room

up the street from the daily planet was the highland cue ... run by curly ... a character and a great ... i mean ... stay up all night long listening to his stories ... great storyteller .... curly opened a little room in the back of the cue for todd to play ... and called it the starlite music room ... it's the place i first saw todd play with a band ... and the place was packed everytime he played ... it turned into a deal ......

curly decided to have an opening act for todd one saturday night ... from what i can remember they were kind of a girl in a black beret and stand up bass maybe ... i really can't tell you if they were good or bad ... .because .....
that afternoon ... at the gilmore ... a sort of memphis version of the "shining" ... hotel.. slash ... condo ... where todd was living at the time ... todd and i took about 4 benedryl .. and drank a bottle of paisono wine .... todd supplied the antihistimines ... i supplied the paisono .... my grampap came from italy and made his own wine ... when he passed away ... the closeset thing we could get to his wine was paisono ... it has a bit of a kick to it ... todd was game ... and so was i ....

we showed up at the club about the time the opening act was setting up and about to start their first song ... we sat at the table in the back ... there were maybe a few people there ... the crowd wouldn't show up until todd was scheduled to play....
on cue ... at the cue ... when they hit their first note ... todd and i ... in unison ... hit the deck .... the benedryl and wine knocked us on our butts ... we both were laid out on the floor under the table at the back of this club ... out cold ....

the band kept playing ... oblivious ... as time went on ... people started filing in .... and soon they were walking over us ... and eventually tried to wake up todd ... to play ... but he was out ... the opening act had to continue playing all night ... honestly around 2 am ... i raised my head from the floor ... and said ... are they still playing that same damn song ... eventually we came around ... i remember everything being in some sort of weird fellini slow motion ... we just chalked it up to another one of those nights...i don't think curly had an opening act for todd for awhile after that ...
