Martha and Jr.

Mark Marchetti

Martha and Junior live in a fall out shelter
behind my house
Martha paints by numbers
junior runs off at the mouth

Dogs always barking - hookers and junkies
needles left out in the yard
I watch it all from my back window
and realize my life ain't so hard

It's a sad sad world
That's a cold hard fact
Some people worry about falling in love
While others are strung out on crack
and it's not your fault
and it sure ain't mine
but any way
Martha and Junior said to tell you that their doing fine

Martha and Junior are a little bit slower
than most people think they should be
I always saw'em as some kind of holy
cause their halos were so easy to see

People would laugh at the way that they talk
and the haphazard way that they dressed
Martha and Junior didn't say nothing
but they cussed'em right under their breath

It's a sad sad world
and it's just not fair
Some people don't have enough food to eat
Others wonder what colors to wear
and it's not your fault
and it sure ain't mine
but any way
Martha and Junior said to tell you to have a good time

Martha has only one plan for the future
That's to sell her a painting or two
Junior's big dream is for cable TV
To watch wrestling on Pay Per View

No house in the hamptons, No PTA meetings
No Nest eggs tucked away
Just a hand me down tee shirt
with a big smiling face
and the words that say Have a Nice day

It's a sad sad world
It makes me cry
Some mornings I wake up weeping
and I don't know why
and it's not your fault
and it sure ain't mine
but any way
Martha and Junior said to tell you that love must be blind
Martha and Junior said to tell you to have a good time
Martha and Junior said to tell you that their doing fine
