When I was in Vietnam
I went to see
A buddy
Who was wounded

He was in a field hospital
About an hour away
When I got there
I was walking around looking for him

I saw a kid
Outside, under a tent with the sides open
Laying there, screaming, crying for his mom
I could only see the top half of him

The bottom half looked like it had been stepped on
Flattened out like a bug
The top half squirming and crying for his mom
I looked for a moment and turned away

There was nothing I could do
The doctors were there
Last night all these years later
I was lying in bed thinking about my mom

She passed away 3 weeks ago
And that poor boy crossed my mind
Laying there all alone thousands of miles from home
Screaming and crying for his mom
